As solution to seeking problems

I am currently quite intrigued about the vocation of a Life Coach. This past Friday I had an interview for the position of a female interviewer for a study inquiring female preferences in relations to dating and how someone attains a significant other. A life coach had hired a research team to gather information on what females look in for a boyfriend and what they find attractive in men correlating to location. Having an personal deep interest in human behavior and psychology in general, I was extremely excited to possibly have an opportunity to work for this particular professional. While my interview was discussing the study he touched on the subject of possibly publishing their findings. This was extremely appealing since writing my own book within my lifetime has always seemed enticing. All in all, I hope to get this job and further my experience in research while networking with some important people.

“The fact is, most people don’t want a coach,” he theorized of his lack of success, following with a classic Robbinsian “re-frame”: “What people do want, however, is a solution to their pressing problems.”

“I feel such a strong energy, fearfulness, anxiousness, frustration,” she said into a headset over the telephone. “I want you all to know that you are all infinitely talented and capable of achieving goals beyond your wildest imagination.”

Centered on the “life-empowerment” mantra Restore, Simplify, Verify, Power.

“The cornerstone principle of coaching is you and I are already whole, resourceful, capable and creative,

Get back up!

“Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.”
- Lao-Tzu

“Concentration is the secret of strength.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

“Our strength grows out of our weaknesses.”
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

“People do not lack strength, they lack will.”
- Victor Hugo

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.”
– Arnold Schwarzenegger

YOU CAN DO IT!

It's great to be able to stop
When you've planned a thing that's wrong,
And be able to do something else instead
And think this song:

I can stop when I want to
Can stop when I wish.
I can stop, stop, stop any time.
And what a good feeling to feel like this
And know that the feeling is really mine.
Know that there's something deep inside
That helps us become what we can.
For a girl can be someday a woman
And a boy can be someday a man.

The recipe for happiness!

The 11th Reason for Optimism: notes

We are on the search for happiness. We want to be happier. Positive Psychology can help.

Three "happy" lives
Pleasant Life (pleasure you can feel, raw feelings and thoughts) - having as many pleasures as possible. 3 drawbacks: positive emotion is 50% heritable and not modifiable. 15/20% tricks of getting more of it. Positive emotion also habituates.

Life of Engagement (time stops for you): aka- The Good Life/ flow. Pleasure vs. Flow. Identifying Signature Strengths. Recraft them to work, love and play.
Strengths
Optimistic
Empathetic
Adaptable
Genuine
Imaginative

Meaningful Life: Knowing your signature strengths, use it in the service of something larger than you. ex: positive institutions.

Are there things that lastingly change those lives?
Yes. Interventions have an effect.
Assignments/ Positive Interventions
****Design yourself a beautiful day : take mindfulness skills and savoriness skills. design yourself a beautiful and savoring in mindfulness . pleasant life is enhanced
****Gratitude visit. close your eyes and remember someone who did something enormously good for you. write a 300 testimonial, call them ask you can visit then show them. everyone weeps.
****State strengths. couples identify highest strengths. find an evening where they both use strengths
****Philanthropy. do something altruistic and something fun.

As the function of the 3 different lives, how much life satisfaction to you get?
pursuit of meaning, strongest
pursuit of pleasure. almost no contribution. if you have meaning
pursuit of engagement (flow). strong

pleasure matters when you have engagement and meaning. this is the whip cream and cherry on the top

break the mold

Fulfillment at any age

"We know what we are but not what we may be."  Ophelia in Hamlet

"I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 things that do not work."  Thomas Edison  1847-1931

"The brain is wider than the sky." Emily Dickinson

"We are so made, that we can only derive intense enjoyment from a contrast and only very little from a state of things." Sigmund Freud
-Sameness is boring, change keeps us alive

"I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live up to what light I have." Abraham Lincoln
-According to Maslow's self-actualization theory, we strive to achieve our inner potential which may or may not result in success. The "light we have" is our unique ability to become the best we can be.

"The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind." William James

"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."  Shakespeare (Hamlet)

"The disappearance of a sense of responsibility is the most far-reaching consequence of submission to authority." Stanley Milgram
-If anyone could talk about the importance of maintaining an internal compass of social responsibility, it was Stanley Milgram. By showing that ordinary people could commit acts of cruelty toward others, Milgram helped to pave the way for social psychologists to demonstrate the need for individuals to resist pressure to conformity by adhering to their own principles of standing up for the principles we feel to be right.

And I'm back!
