-If anyone could talk about the importance of maintaining an internal compass of social responsibility, it was Stanley Milgram. By showing that ordinary people could commit acts of cruelty toward others, Milgram helped to pave the way for social psychologists to demonstrate the need for individuals to resist pressure to conformity by adhering to their own principles of standing up for the principles we feel to be right.
